Charging-System Integration

This paper documents an electrical-integration lesson learned while modernizing a 1983 BMW R80ST. It treats the charging system as an interacting architecture rather than as a collection of independently compatible components.

The case study examines battery–regulator compatibility, BMS disconnect behavior, DC-bus boundary conditions, standby loads, regulator thermal environment, and the evidence surrounding a damaged Silent Hektik LiMa regulator.

The analysis is deliberately neutral about manufacturers and limits conclusions to what measurements, documentation, and the observed hardware condition support.
